The Ultimate Noun Explorer

Description

There is currently a live candidate for Probe at Nouns and feedback has been to try a smaller prop via Gardener first, so I am back with a refined idea and slightly different vision to what I proposed in Gardener round 2.

Probe aims to become the ultimate Noun explorer, onboarding tool, digital gallery, and pixel-by-pixel breakdown of Noun art, and so far provides:

  • a live view of all Nouns
  • the only way to filter Nouns by all new traits

The ultimate goal of Probe is to create the most enjoyable place to explore and bid on Nouns while providing all the data anyone would need, and then some. This will become the place you direct your friends to learn about Nouns art, participate in selecting the next Noun, bid in daily auctions and even suggest new art for the protocol.

This project has been funded 0.5e via Lil Nouns Prop house and it was always my hope to go from Lil Nouns Prop House to Nouns Prop House to Nouns Proposal, so it would be great to complete the next step via Nouns Garden. I now see the primary audience of Probe as art collectors and fans of Nouns, so the initial focus is building a beautiful gallery and exploration tool. From this foundation, the plan is to add a frontend to facilitate the sale and selection of new Nouns for potential new DAO members, this is what I hope will be done via a Nouns DAO proposal.

Within this gardener prop, I believe the most beneficial use of time will be to focus on making the frontend as functional and beautiful as possible across an array of screen sizes and getting ready for a large amount of data to be incorporated.

This gardener proposal sprints will include the following:

  • Redesign the Search/Filter page, maximising the size of the art and improving interaction UX e.g. zoom, infinite scroll
  • Add site-wide search by ID & traits (+ explore natural language search)
  • Add a 'Noun Details' page when clicking through from the Search/Filter page (+ trial multiple layout options)
  • Incorporate 'Head Stats' displaying the size/shape/weight/theme of all the different Noun heads
  • Testing and refining the UI/UX across popular devices/screen sizes and fixing edge-case issues

Below is an illustrative example of a design update to the 'Search/Filter' page:

Below is an illustrative (data not accurate) example of 'Head Stats' page, within this gardener prop the stats may just be included within the 'Noun Details' page rather than stand-alone:

I would love to pursue this project as it incorporates many of the things that I love; art, design, user experience and memes. Considering that Nouns is such an impressive, vast (and growing) body of artwork, I think it is only right that there be a dedicated portal such as Probe to exhibit the art to the fullest extent, and breakdown each aspect of a Noun to allow others to gain a similar respect that I personally hold for the collection.

I represent a team of 3, we are also working on EVM protocols and onchain art projects as mshrm.studio

  • pipe - designer (UX, UI, Graphics, Sprint Planning)

  • tom - developer (Laravel, Vue, React)

  • matt - developer (Solidity, C#, Java, Javascript/JQuery, C++, PHP, Python) - won't be working on this gardener prop

Thanks for the consideration,
